Yesterday I did a post on “Using Social Media to Land a Job” and it has been on my mind. How in the hell is Facebook and Twitter number 1 and 2 for social media platforms leading to jobs? At first I immediately thought of 2 things. One, the number of users on Facebook and Twitter has to be a factor. Two, LinkedIn has experience huge growth over the past year and HR departments are quickly adopting utilizing LinkedIn as their primary human asset acquisition resource.
So, I did my own research and went back the resource that TechCrunch referenced for the study. Here is what I found from a perspective of how companies are finding candidates and their plan to utilize social media in the future to find candidates.
Yes, read it and weep James Bridges!
It is my prediction that LinkedIn will quickly over take Facebook and Twitter for hiring mid level positions and above. I cannot be bold enough to say it will overtake Facebook and Twitter for entry level positions, but if it did I would not be surprised.
Below are two more charts that show that companies are using social media as a first and primary resource for finding and hiring quality candidates.
So, what is the moral of this story? If you need a job and you do not have a social media presence, you better get started or you will be left behind!
